The sun says Michael Jackson aides told medics he had collapsed after an injection of potent Demerol

PARAMEDICS dashed to dying Michael Jackson’s side after a panic-stricken phone call from the superstar’s Los Angeles home.

The dramatic call was made by a member of staff last night at just after 8pm UK time.

Fire Department medics responded to the alert and arrived to find the 50-year-old singer collapsed and not breathing. He had suffered a cardiac arrest.

The emergency staff rushed him to hospital in their vehicle, where a computer screen revealed chilling details of his condition.

A record of the call-out read: “50 year old male Not breathing at all.” It gave the time of the call- out as 12.21pm local time.

Medics administered heart massage and oxygen along the route. But they could not revive the star.

Jacko’s family were informed and rushed to his bedside as weeping fans began massing outside the city’s UCLA Medical Centre.

There were screams of “You’ve got to save him, you’ve got to save him” as the star was stretchered in.

Mum Katherine made it to the hospital shortly after her son, although his father Joe was in Las Vegas when told the news. Close pal Elizabeth Taylor also rushed to the hospital to say her goodbyes.

Finally a doctor appeared and told shocked relatives and aides that all efforts to restart his heart had failed and that he had died.

Sister La Toya was seen running into the hospital sobbing after her brother was pronounced dead.

Los Angeles County Coroner Fred Corell last night confirmed that Jackson had died of heart failure at 2.26pm local time.

Last night it was suspected his collapse could have been caused by an overdose of painkiller.

An Emergency Room source at UCLA hospital said Jackson aides told medics he had collapsed after an injection of potent Demerol — similar to morphine.

A Jacko source said: “Shortly after taking the Demerol he started to experience slow shallow breathing.

“His breathing gradually got slower and slower until it stopped.

“His staff started mouth-to-mouth and an ambulance was called which got there in eight minutes “Butfound he was in full respiratory arrest, no breathing and no pulse. They started full CPR and rushed him to hospital.

“When he arrived they started resuscitation, giving him heart shocks and inserted a breathing tube and other supportive measures to try and save his life.

“He never regained consciousness. The family was told that he had passed.”

As news spread of Jackson’s death, thousands of fans gathered outside the hospital.

Many were dressed in the eccentric singer’s trademark costumes and others blasted out his smash-hit tunes.

Family lawyer Brian Oxman said the star collapsed at his rented home in LA’s Holmby Hills area while brother Randy was present.

Los Angeles City Fire Department confirmed the emergency call was made from Jackson’s home.

“The call came in because a person was not breathing,” said a spokesman.

“When the team arrived, they saw that CPR was already in progress by someone at the home.

“The person not breathing was transported to UCLA Medical Centre.”

Other stunned family members said that Jackson, who was due to begin a series of comeback concerts at London’s O2 arena next month, “was in really bad shape”.

The singer had been staying at the LA house while he rehearsed for his comeback tour.

More than 750,000 tickets had been sold for the former King of Pop’s “This is It” concerts.

The opening dates were postponed last month after concert promoters AIG said Jackson needed more time to rehearse the complex dance routines.

But after The Sun revealed that he was suffering from skin cancer there were fears that he was not fit enough to complete the tour.

Experts found spots of skin cancer on his upper body and pre-cancerous cells on his face.

Jacko’s close pal Uri Geller was “too upset for words” last night.

He said: “The whole world is absolutely devastated and I am lost for words because everyone expected him to come to England to do his concerts.

“He was in good health. He was rehearsing, dancing, practising for the shows in England and I am shocked, that is all I can say.”

Jacko had been blighted by a string of past health problems — including rumoured heart trouble.

But he had vowed to perform his £150million comeback gigs.

He is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince “Blanket” Michael Jackson II.

New location

Luv-It Frozen Custard is moving to the Strip?

No. The Pinball Hall of Fame is moving west on Tropicana Avenue. Instead of being near Pecos Road, it will soon be closer to Maryland Parkway, UNLV and tourists from the Strip.

Owner Tim Arnold, who has spent a lifetime collecting pinball machines and owns about 1,200, is moving into a former tile warehouse across Tropicana from the Liberace Museum.

The Clark County Planning Commission approved a use permit for the relocated museum last week. After Arnold upgrades the 8,662-square-foot building at 1610. E. Tropicana to meet county code, he’s going to move in and nearly double the size of his museum. The Las Vegas Pinball Collectors Club, of which Arnold is the president, purchased the building in November for $1.24 million.

He said the extra room at the new location will allow him to let the public enjoy more of his collection, more of his machines from the ’50s and ’60s. He hopes to open the new location within the next 30 to 90 days.

What’s this guy’s story?

Arnold, 53, bought his first machine for $200 in 1970 and made some money during the pinball heyday of the ’70s and ’80s. In 1991, he and his wife moved to the desert, where his machines could benefit from the dry climate. In 1993, Arnold started his twice-a-year pinball Fun Night, eventually drawing 1,000 people over two nights. In 2006, he opened the Pinball Hall of Fame.

He runs the 4,500-square-foot business with more than 200 machines as a nonprofit; excess quarters are donated to the Salvation Army. Part of a wall near a cracked-open “Dracula” machine is decorated with copies of checks for charities ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Vegas bets on bargains

LAS VEGAS — It’s back to the buffet, bargains and customer bonuses for Las Vegas casinos.

Fast food is up, fine dining tabs are down and hotel rooms are available for less than $50 in a city that has been calling on recession-weary tourists to come back and play the quarter slot machines.

Value is the hippest thing on Las Vegas Boulevard this year.

And as hotel-casinos from one end of the Las Vegas Strip to the other lowered rates, visitors returned to cash in. In January, occupancy citywide dropped to about 72 percent, far below the 90 percent-plus normally enjoyed by Las Vegas hotels. By March, occupancy rose to 85.9 percent — and 92.5 percent on weekends.

Executives say changing customer demands affect every hotel-casino, from the $159 per night Wynn Las Vegas to the Imperial Palace, where rooms can be found for $34 per night.

The Imperial Palace is selling a package that includes a one-night stay with all meals at its buffet and a cafe and all drinks at casino and pool bars for $95.

The Luxor has used Twitter to push a $35 one-day pass to its buffet. Other MGM Mirage hotel-casinos offer all-day buffet tickets, and the Luxor’s includes beer, wine and champagne.

Even Michelin-starred restaurants where dinner tabs run to $100 per person are offering fine dining at reduced, fixed rates.

The three-star Joël Robuchon at the MGM Grand is known for its $385 16-course meal and a $225 six-course option. But it recently debuted another menu for $89.

For those on a tighter budget, enough inexpensive fun exists here to fill a trip without stinging stakes. Examples: $49 rooms this month at the Golden Nugget (plus a coupon book worth more than $250 in resort discounts), slow-paced poker games, and free attractions, from lion-watching to a man-made volcano.

GAMBLING

OK, so gambling and the concept of being “on a budget” don’t seem likely partners, but if you’re tired of blackjack’s big swings and don’t want to spend hours pumping slot machines for a penny a pull, try Pai Gow poker.

This table game, a variant of a Chinese gambling game played with dominoes, can be found at just about any casino with stakes starting at about $10 per hand, equal to or less than the cheapest blackjack tables.

Your goal is to assemble the seven cards dealt to you into two separate poker hands — one with five cards and another using two — in hopes of beating the dealer on both. A single joker in the deck can be used either as an ace or as a wild card to fill a straight or a flush.

Win both hands and win the bet, lose both hands and lose. Winning one hand but losing the other means the hand is a push — no money won or lost. Because of the nature of the game, pushes happen more often than wins or losses.

The house gets its edge in two ways. First, it benefits from identical hands, so it would win a two-card showdown if you each held ace-king. Second, it charges a 5 percent commission on all wins. That means a $10 bet will get you $9.50 if you win.

If you’re confused, ask the dealer to assemble your cards the way the house would play them. Other players at the table likely will offer their help, too, because you can’t affect anyone else’s hand.

That makes this game a whole lot less tense than others — plus you’ll still get free drinks.

Free entertainment

Lounge acts and good people-watching posts are plentiful on the Strip, but it’s tough to beat the beauty of the fountains at Bellagio.

Sidewalk space is free for people to gather and watch the water dance to whatever’s playing, whether it’s classical music, opera or popular tunes. Below the surface, the 8-acre lake holds some 1,000 custom-built nozzles and about 4,000 lights programmed to create complex choreography.

Show times are every half-hour starting at 3 p.m. on weekdays and noon on weekends, with shows every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. until midnight (except on windy days).

Beyond the fountains, free entertainment can be found just about anywhere.

The developers of the fountain show are behind the new volcano at The Mirage, with flames dancing for roughly five minutes to music from Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Indian tabla musician Zakir Hussain (every hour on the hour from dusk until midnight).

Off the Strip, the Show in the Sky! at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino features a cast of singers and dancers taking over one side of the casino, riding floats on tracks from the ceiling and performing on the hour every hour from 7 p.m. to midnight Thursdays-Sundays.

There are animals to see for free, as well, including flamingos at the wildlife habitat at Flamingo Las Vegas and lions at the MGM Grand.

Those entertained by basic Vegas glitz and glam should simply walk through Caesars Palace and the Bellagio (including a stop at Bellagio’s seasonally changing botanical garden), the Venetian and Palazzo (through the Grand Canal Shoppes with its daily street performers) or the Wynn Las Vegas.

Getting around

Free trams run 24/7 along the Strip between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur, and between The Mirage and Treasure Island. Harrah’s runs another free shuttle for customers between its casinos, every 30 minutes from Caesars Palace, the Rio, Harrah’s Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas.

For $3 a ride or a $7 all-day pass, the round-the-clock bus service known as the Deuce could be the cheapest way to travel along the entire Strip without walking, all the way to downtown.

Bob Arum: Mayweather-Pacquiao in doubt for ‘09

The posturing between the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao camps regarding a potential megafight between the former and current pound-for-pound champions continues.

Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, said in a report posted on Philstar.com it is unlikely the two biggest names in the sport will be able to meet in the ring until sometime in 2010, if at all.

It has been speculated that a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown might happen Oct. 17.

Yet Arum contends Mayweather, who is set to fight Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, needs more than three months to prepare for such a big fight.

“I think Mayweather would not really be available this year,” he told BoxingScene.com.

“Obviously, we’re not going to wait until after the Marquez fight. There have been no discussions whatsoever with the Mayweather people at this particular point,” he added. “And as far as I know, nobody is pushing the Mayweather fight.”

The undefeated Mayweather, a six-time former world champ and Grand Rapids native, has insisted he get the lion’s share of the purse in any matchup against Pacquiao.

“It will be a cold day in hell before that happens,” Mayweather told FightHype.com about the chances of him agreeing to a 50-50 split of the purse.

Arum, who once promoted Mayweather, has fired back that he will not let Mayweather dictate the timing or financial terms of a fight against Pacquiao.

Arum, meanwhile, continues to push for Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley as Pacquiao’s next opponent, although the final decision will be made by Pacquiao and Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach

Promoter Bob Arum, right, says he won’t way for Floyd Mayweather’s July 18 fight to determine Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent.

Adult film actress talks about goals after crossing over to mainstream movies

Sasha Grey celebrates her birthday March 17, 2009, at Tao nightclub in Las Vegas. The adult film actress recently got her first mainstream film role in the Steven Soderbergh film, “The Girlfriend Experience.”

Award-winning pornstar Sasha Grey may have made it to the mainstream but she’s not about to abandon her X-rated roots.

The AVN and XRCO 2008 “Female Performer of the Year” has recently attracted a lot of attention for her role in the Steven Soderbergh film, “the Girlfriend Experience.”

Grey’s first major mainstream role certainly won’t be her last: She has two more mainstream movies, “Quit” and “Smash Cut,” due out this summer.

Still, Grey isn’t about to turn her back on the industry that made her a (porn) star.

Unlike many adult film stars, who try to use their X-rated stardom to transition into mainstream roles, Grey said she never intended to make the switch.

“It’s not something that I ever sought out,” she said, suggesting the mainstream came to her, not the other way around.

“Stephen and his writer … contacted me,” she said.

Grey said she hoped to become the first actress to simultaneously appear in both adult and mainstream films.

“There’s never really been anybody, any woman, in the adult business to really hold both at the same time,” she observed.

And Grey, 21, is up for the challenge.

“I enjoy the challenge of people telling me no and proving them wrong,” she said.

Despite all the mainstream attention, Grey is still focusing a lot of her attention on initiatives within the adult industry.

“I just launched my own production company for adult films and I’ll be doing another film in August, so it’s busy, busy,” she said last night as she arrived for a “Girlfriend Experience” party at Lavo.

Though she may count “Escape from New York” as her favorite film (Kurt Russell was one of her first crushes), Grey is a bonafide film buff: Her top five favorite films is rounded out by 1977’s “Stroszek;” 2001’s “Fat Girl;” 1965’s “Pierrot le Fou;” and 1974’s “A Woman Under the Influence.”

As “the Girlfriend Experience” prepares to hit theaters tomorrow, Grey said she doesn’t know what to expect.

“I don’t really read reviews,” she said, “(And) it’s not easy to view something that you’ve done.”

She explained how working on a film, doing press, and now, waiting for its public release has been an enlightening experience.

“You’re done and you’ve finished with the project and you feel like that’s it, but now here it is for the world to see and it’s the first time they’re seeing it , hearing about it, relating to it, or hating it,” she said.

The enterprising brunette said she was “grateful” for everything she had experienced throughout the process and said working with Soderbergh was “amazing.”

“You can always see the wheels spinning in his head,” she said.

While Grey admitted it took her a few days to acclimatize herself to the set, she said she quickly learned to expect the unexpected from her new director, and roll with it.

“You’d expect to hear one thing or do one thing and he’d come up with the last thing that you did not think of,” she said.

Grey is a busy girl, both on camera and behind it.

“Right now I’m focusing on my brand new production company I just launched, it’s called Grey Art, and in August I go to shoot another independent film and I was just handed a couple more scripts so I’m juggling a little bit of everything right now,“ she said.

In addition to bridging the adult-mainstream divide, Grey hopes to add another title to her growing list of credentials – “director” — and produce some independent films of her own, as well.

A far as advice for aspiring starlets, the seemingly wise-beyond-her-years star eagerly shares the wisdom she’s acquired over the last three years: “I would have to say, be sure you want to do this, and tell your parents because they will find out, and save your money.”

Big Elvis Big Man Big Voice

Big Elvis: Big man, big voice
But the biggest thing about Pete ‘Big Elvis’ Vallee is the 500 pounds of him that are no longer there, thanks to old-fashioned diet and exercise and the above-and-beyond dedication of friends

Pete Vallee performs as “Big Elvis” at Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and Saloon in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

Big Elvis
Eat Like A King

When Pete “Big Elvis” Vallee changed the way he thought about food, he turned to healthier recipes to help him lose weight. Here’s one:

Big Elvis’ “Stoup” (not quite stew, not quite soup)

* 3 cans of salt-free tomato sauce
* 1 large can of diced tomatoes
* 5 pounds of mixed frozen vegetables
* 1 chopped onion
* 10 skinless chicken thighs

Season with oregano, parsley, sage and Italian herb mix. Place ingredients in large crockpot and cook on medium for 10 hours

Serves two, for two or three days.
If You Go

* Where: Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon, 3595 Las Vegas Blvd. South
* When: 3, 5 and 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
* Admission: Free

The first time you see him, on the sign, he’s a cartoon, an apple-bellied goof in a gold-studded white jumpsuit, tall black hair, a guitar and gold sunglasses.

Big Elvis, the sign says.

He’s the free weekdays lounge show at Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon, just across the Strip from Caesars Palace. Go into the lounge and settle into a chair out of granddad’s rec room for the three o’clock show.

Big Elvis’ intro music is “Thus Spake Zarathustra,” better known as the ascending theme from “2001: A Space Odyssey” — ba baa baaaa BAA-BUM bum-bum bum-bum bum-bum.

Big Elvis comes out to a karaoke track of “Burnin’ Love.” Here comes the hunka hunka!

And then the man opens his mouth.

People’s drinks pause, resting on their lips, and the unsuspecting turn from their slot machines to the stage. Men dip their longneck beers as if to say, Check that guy out.

It’s a barrel-deep, lusty baritone, flattering and conquering the crowd, an argument that can make you wonder whether maybe they didn’t crown the king too early.

Big Elvis is a large man, 400-plus pounds draped in a jumpsuit. He perches on a wooden throne when he’s not wooing and rousing the crowd, his dark eyes shimmering under his pool-water blue Elvis glasses.

He tries to start a Maracas-shaking line. “Come on up,” he teases. “Nobody’s died up here yet, and I’m the proof.”

Barely.

He’s literally half the Big Elvis he used to be, back when he was lurking on stage like a wounded animal, nursing hits of oxygen. Back when he was Way Too Big Elvis.

Back before he lost those 500 pounds.

• • •

Pete Vallee was born 44 years ago in Memphis, Tenn. He was the fourth and last child, a surprise that cut short his mother’s attempt to revive her singing career. He was raised mostly in Bellingham, Wash., and his parents divorced when he was 6 years old. Pete’s mother worked two jobs, but it wasn’t always enough to keep food in the house. Looking back, he says food meant to him that he was loved and life was going OK.

Country, gospel and rockabilly music filled his life, especially the music of Elvis Aaron Presley. Pete first performed Elvis’ music on stage at his Tukwila high school talent show when he was 14 years old. It was 1979, two years after Elvis died. Pete weighed 200 pounds, but at 6-foot-3, he was just husky.

At 19, he was 260 pounds. At 29, 550 pounds. By the time he was 40, he weighed about 960 pounds, according to the bulk mail scale at his local post office.

• • •

Dr. Louis J. Aronne knows how a human might get to weigh half a ton. He is director of the comprehensive weight control program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Aronne says the body regulates weight partly with a hormone called leptin, which tells the brain how much fat is stored. If there’s enough leptin floating through your blood, you’re not hungry. But as you gain too much weight, your brain becomes resistant to leptin. That happened to Pete. He ate because he was hungry, and grew hungry because he ate.

Pete could down a large pizza from Dominos, an order of cinnamon breadsticks, plus an order of the cheese ones — and three or four hours later, find himself at the drive-through window.

But in the meantime, Pete had a career, one that the weight didn’t exactly hurt. After all, he was performing as Big Elvis.

Big Elvis was born 13 years ago in Auburn, Wash., in a nearly empty auditorium of a community college.

After Pete stopped playing, a man named Bob Sluys struck up a conversation. You can’t hide your weight, Sluys told him. People will notice, so why don’t you use it as a show business gimmick? Milk it for all you can.

Pete credits Sluys for coming up with the name “Big Elvis,” but Sluys isn’t so sure. Either way, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Pete moved to Las Vegas to follow his ex-wife and young daughter and son.

He landed a job singing at the now-defunct Roadhouse Casino on Boulder Highway.

A year later, Pete’s ex-wife moved to Colorado with their children but Pete stayed in Vegas, figuring he had made it into show business. He got married again, for a year.

Then in 2000, Pete met the woman he says saved his life.

Lucille DiPietro Star was a criminal and divorce attorney in Boston before she moved to Las Vegas. Then she went into show business.

She and her fiance decided to become talent managers. A friend told them she had to see an Elvis impersonator out on Boulder Highway.

A big man, maybe 450 or 500 pounds, came out in a two-piece suit with a large collar and set up his own sound system. Then he started to sing.

“And I thought, ‘Oh my God, what is he doing out here?’ ”

Lucille and the man who was now her husband told Pete they wanted to represent him. He wasn’t enthusiastic. He’d known people before who wanted to be his manager, look out for his money. Right. He declined and moved further down Boulder Highway to the Magic Star (now the Wildfire). A year later, he decided he might be ready for representation after all.

The next year, Lucille and her husband got Pete onto the Strip, back when Bill’s was the Barbary Coast.

And as the Big Elvis show grew, so did Pete’s weight, to the point where he couldn’t walk for more than 10 or 15 steps. He had an oxygen bottle stashed next to the stage for quick whiffs. He appeared in Las Vegas’ centennial Helldorado Days parade in 2005, towed on a trailer. When Pete saw himself on TV, he looked unbelievably huge, pale and sweaty.

Lucille’s husband had died a month before and her dad was in town to see her. They told Pete he was going to die, sooner rather than later. Lucille’s dad paid for a psychiatrist to fly out from Boston and meet with Pete. Lucille moved into his house and slept on a couch in his office.

For a year and a half, Lucille and five neighbors and friends of Pete’s kept checking on him, preparing meals — vegetables, chicken and fish, no salt and no carbohydrates. And they pushed exercise. Lucille would take Pete to the parking lot of a soccer field and as he walked around it, she drove his car next to him so he could stop and rest against it. Gaining wind, Pete bought an aboveground pool and started swimming 45 minutes each day.

Now, four years later, Pete says he weighs 405 pounds — meaning that without surgery, using only diet and exercise, he has lost more than a quarter of a ton.

Is it possible? Dr. Aronne says yes, for some people.

When people quickly lose more than 10 percent of their weight, usually the body’s starvation defenses kick in. The weight — even the water weight that sloughs off at as much as 50 pounds at a time — stops coming off and people are wracked with hunger. At this point, most people plateau forever or break their diet.

However, some people can retrain their bodies. And, Arrone says, when it’s possible, it’s most likely to happen on Pete’s diet.

“You know how they have those disclaimers that say, ‘Results not typical?’ These results are not typical,” Arrone says. “But people can do it, and I give them lots of credit.”

Pete says whenever he wakes up starving in the night, he thinks of his children, of seeing them grow up. Then he prays.

He says he can never repay Lucille.

And, if you ask his friends, Pete is a man who tries to give back.

One of those neighbors who helped take care of Pete? His name’s Chuck Rawlings, himself a one-time Elvis impersonator. Pete asked him to sing and play guitar in the show, doing Conway Twitty and more — an addition paid out of Pete’s and Lucille’s share. Sue Laurenz, president of the Las Vegas Elvis fan club, remembers when Pete anonymously covered the funeral expenses of a security guard for Elvis at the International (now the Las Vegas Hilton).

Pete himself is inclined not to discuss these matters, and just mumbles that he’s only doing what Elvis would do.

These days, he’s got a new fiancee, Amanda Lasham, who’s roughly two fifths of his weight. She has a tattoo on the back of her neck that says “Elvis Presley” — Pete wouldn’t let her get “Big Elvis.” She lives with him, cooks for him and hides the Domino’s Pizza fliers so he won’t be tempted. And she comes to all his shows, standing just inside his dressing room door, dancing through every song.

What else could she do? Because every day, Monday through Friday, at 3, 5 and 6:30 p.m., the sound system starts up… ba baa baaaa BAA-BUM bum-bum bum-bum bum-bum …

And then there he is, without a jungle room, a custom garage full of Cadillacs or much gold anything, giving everything he has with a voice to shake Graceland, sweating down toward his goal of 250 pounds.

Big Elvis.

(ABC News Photo Illustration)More than three months after the president’s comments suggesting executives avoid using taxpayer money to fund trips like junkets to Vegas, Obama could receive a lukewarm reception Tuesday at Caesar’s Palace.

In a city that thrives largely on tourism, some people are still steamed, including Republican Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons. Gibbons turned down an offer to shake hands with the president today, saying he wanted more than a “momentary” greeting given the president’s February remarks. Locals with signs saying “Vegas Means Business” may greet the president as he arrives in town.

“Apparently our money is good enough for the president, but our tourism, jobs and economic future are not,” said Gov. Gibbons.

Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans died at his home this morning. Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans died at his home this morning. He was 52.

The cause of death is unknown.
Henderson Police spokesman Officer Todd Rasmussen said this morning they received a call about 3:45 a.m. from a woman inside the home at 761 Ricota Court in Henderson. The woman said that a 52-year-old male was having breathing problems. When officers and paramedics arrived they found the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rasmussen said, as per department procedure, police are conducting a death investigation at the home. The Clark County coroner’s office said this morning that they had not yet received Gans’ body.

Gans has been a Las Vegas entertainer for more than 12 years performing as a self-described “musical impressionist.” He was scheduled to perform his show tonight at the Encore Theater at the Encore Las Vegas Resort.

In an official statement from Gans’ manager Chip Lightman, he said Gans died in his sleep around 3 a.m.

“Danny Gans will not only be remembered as a Las Vegas entertainer, but as a man who loved his family, loved God, and loved the City of Las Vegas.

“Danny Gans has been my partner and dear friends for over 18 years, I will truly miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife of 28 years, Julie Gans, and 3 children, Amy, Andrew and Emily.”

Casino developer Steve Wynn also released a statement about the entertainer.

“Elaine and I and all of us in the company are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend. One of the most unique human beings and entertainers in the world has been taken from us in an unexpected moment. A profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless. The loss of Danny to his wife Julie, his children Amy, Andrew and Emily is at this moment impossible to comprehend. We will all try to go on with our lives without our dear friend. At this moment it seems almost impossible.”

Gans’ show at The Mirage earned him title of “Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year” for 11 years in a row.

In February, Gans changed venues and had been performing his show at the new Encore Theater.

Divorce papers filed for casino chief Wynn, wife

LAS VEGAS – Billionaire Las Vegas casino magnate Steve Wynn and wife Elaine are again headed for divorce, a court official said Tuesday.

Clark County District Court spokesman Michael Sommermeyer told The Associated Press on Tuesday that divorce papers were filed March 5 and sealed by a judge the same day. The sealing means no other details of the case are public.
A spokeswoman for Wynn Resorts Ltd. told the AP that the company does not comment on the Wynns’ personal matters.

Steve Wynn is chief executive of the Las Vegas-based casino company, which reported $210.2 million in net income for 2008. Elaine Wynn, 66, is a director on the company’s board.

It was not clear how a split could potentially affect the company, which is focused on opening the $700 million Encore Macau casino in 2010, along with operating its existing resorts amid a difficult economic climate. When asked about the company’s plans, Wynn Resorts spokeswoman Jennifer Dunne said only that Elaine Wynn is an “active board member” of the company.

Andrew Pascal, president and chief operating officer of Wynn Resorts subsidiary Wynn Las Vegas LLC, is a nephew of the Wynns from Elaine’s branch of the family.

Steve Wynn, 67, received $11.2 million in compensation for the company’s top job in 2007, a year its stock price rose as the company expanded in Las Vegas and Macau, the Chinese gambling enclave.

According to data compiled from Securities and Exchange Commission documents by 10K-Wizard, Steve and Elaine Wynn each own more than 24 million shares in Wynn Resorts. The stakes were each worth more than $468 million at Tuesday’s market close, as Wynn Resorts’ stock rose over 25 percent to close at $19.50. The shares are still nearly 84 percent off their 52-week high of $119.74 set in August before the market meltdown eroded much of their value.

The pair appeared together publicly in late December when the company opened the $2.3 billion Encore Las Vegas hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. But the Wynns have been dogged since January by tabloid reports that Steve Wynn had fallen for another woman.

Steve and Elaine Wynn, college sweethearts, were married in 1963. They divorced in 1986, only to remarry five years later. As a longtime member of the company’s board, Elaine Wynn, a former beauty queen, has been active in the family business and is a regular on the Las Vegas charity and social circuit.

Vogue magazine once dubbed her “the unofficial queen of Las Vegas.”

In happier times, Steve Wynn once said he bought the Desert Inn casino, the site of his Wynn Las Vegas, as a birthday gift for his wife.

The couple has two adult daughters, Kevyn and Gillian.

In 1993, then-26-year-old Kevyn Wynn was kidnapped from her home before being freed several hours later for a $1.5 million ransom.

Deals hit the buffet line: Eat all day for $25

The economic slump has Las Vegas casinos blitzing the Internet with offers that include free rooms, half-price show tickets and airplane vouchers for future trips.

The Excalibur is filling a new niche, so to speak, for the gluttonous crowd.

The budget property is offering unlimited, all-day access to its buffet for $25. One can only imagine how much damage can be done to a roast or pasta platter in 24 hours.

Like many surprising hotel bargains these days, it’s something of a social experiment. Or maybe a Pavlovian one.

The offer is available to customers who offer an e-mail address when they sign up for a MGM Mirage player card.

BREAKING NEWS Police Close to Arrest in Chandra Levy Case

Reports: Arrest close in slaying of Chandra Levy
1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Media reports in Washington and California say that an arrest may be close in the slaying of the former federal intern whose disappearance ended Gary Condit’s congressional career.

WRC in Washington and KGO, KFSN and KCRA in California say D.C. police are seeking an arrest warrant in Chandra Levy’s death. The warrant would be for an inmate convicted of attacking two female joggers in the same Washington park where Levy’s remains were found in 2002.

The 24-year-old Levy disappeared in May 2001.

The married Condit told police that he and Levy were having an affair. Police did not consider him a suspect, but the negative publicity was cited as the main cause of the California Democrat’s re-election defeat in 2002.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier would not comment on the report Saturday.

Police are close to arresting an inmate they’ve already interviewed in the eight-year-old murder case of Chandra Levy and charging him in her disappearance, FOX News has confirmed.

Law enforcement officials said an arrest warrant will be issued for Ingmar Guandique, who is currently in prison in California.

Officials said Guandique will be served papers there and likely then flown to Washington, D.C., to hear the charges against him.

D.C. authorities submitted evidence to the U.S. Attorney’s office to obtain the arrest warrant.

Guandique is reportedly in jail for assaulting two women in Rock Creek Park, the same park where Levy’s remains were found a year after she vanished, according to WRC-TV in Washington.

Another inmate told investigators that Guandique confessed to Levy’s murder, according to the station. But Guandique changed his story when speaking to investigators. He allegedly told police that he saw Levy several times in the park, but played no part in her death.

Levy’s parents, Robert and Susan Levy of Modesto, Calif., said Friday night that police told them there had been a break in the case, KXTV in Sacramento reported.

Levy, 24, of Modesto, Calif., had just completed an internship at the U.S. Bureau of Prisons when she disappeared from her apartment on May 1, 2001. Her remains were found in 2002, more than a year after her disappearance.

The cause of death was ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever charged.

Levy was romantically linked to married California congressman Gary Condit. He denied any involvement in or knowledge of Levy’s disappearance or death.

But he acknowledged to investigators that they had an intimate relationship. Levy’s parents also said their daughter had told them about the affair.

Though police never formally named Condit a suspect, the negative publicity from the case was cited as the main cause of the Democrat’s re-election defeat in 2002.

Gambling mogul Steve Wynn is reported to have left his wife

Gambling mogul Steve Wynn is reported to have left his wife

US billionaire Steve Wynn is reported to have left his wife of 46 years for British divorcee Andrea Hissom.

The mother-of-two has been seen with Wynn, one of America’s richest men with a personal fortune estimated at over £3billion.

According to reports in the US, Wynn dumped his wife Elaine for Hissom after the pair were introduced at one of his casinos.

Under U.S. law Wynn’s wife, who divorced her husband in 1986 only to re-marry him five years later and helped build his casino empire, would be entitled to half his fortune.

Legal experts said the divorce would be the most expensive ever, eclipsing the  £100million U.S. basketball star Michael Jordan paid his wife Juanita when they split.

Rumours about 67-year-old Wynn’s marriage surfaced at the opening gala of his  latest five-star Vegas hotel Encore just before Christmas.

The Las Vegas casino tycoon’s wife and his daughter were seen crying at the launch for the £1.8billion hotel.

According to Las Vegas newspaper columnist Norm Clarke Wynn has moved out of the suite he and his wife shared at the Wynn hotel, one of six he owns in Vegas.

Hissom, an attractive blonde in her mid 40s,  was formerly married to London-based investment broker Robert  Davis Hissom and has two teenage children.

She is believed to be well known among London’s social set, and her Facebook  page lists over 70 friends including financier Guy Dellal.

The New York Post reported that Hissom’s father is financier Victor Danenza, who fled to France in 1976 from the U.S. after being investigated by the FBI for fraudulent stock market deals.

He was reportedly investigated by British authorities in 1992 for other fraudulent stock deals.

A spokesman for Wynn refused to comment on reports of the romance.

‘We never comment on Mr Wynn’s private life,’ said a spokesman.

But Vegas is buzzing with the news that Hissom is the new woman in his life.

Reports first surfaced several weeks ago that Wynn was now dating a ‘gorgeous  British divorcee’.

She was later named by the New York Post newspaper and photos from her   Facebook page have appeared on dozens on blogs reporting the romance.

Wynn, a billionaire property developer rated the 227th richest  man in America,  is credited with transforming Vegas in the 1990s.

His company developed The Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio and Wynn Hotels.

His latest hotel, Encore, which has 2,000 rooms and cost over £1.8billion to build,  was opened amid an economic downturn that has hit casino owners in Vegas.

He also owns one of the biggest private art collections in the world, but  two years ago suffered a costly mishap when he damaged one of his rare Picasso  paintings.

Wynn had sold the Le Reve portrait to friend for just under £100m in 2006.

But as he showed off the portrait to friends for the last time, Wynn, who suffers from retinitis pigmentosa – an eye disease that affects peripheral vision, accidentally put his elbow through the canvas.

The sale was called off, but Wynn still came up trumps after suing his insurance company after they said the painting was now only worth half its valued amount.

The insurers settled out of court with Wynn reportedly pocketing over £30m  -as well as keeping the painting which was revalued after its repair to over  £100m.

He and his wife Elaine, who have two grown up children Kevyn and Gillian,  first wed in 1963.

They divorced in 1986 but continued to live together and remarried five years later.

In 1993 his daughter Gillian was kidnapped and Wynn paid a ransom of over   £750,000 for her safe return.

One of the kidnappers was arrested after he tried to use the ransom money to buy a Ferrari sports car in Newport Beach, California.
